Pros: Front desk staff were generally lovely. Really appreciated Bryan and John. Loved the wine hour.
Cons: Dirty floors, clearly not washed as we discovered ourselves. Breakfast was terrible. Staff was loud even when we were trying to take advantage of the grounds. Overall, just not five star status and service.
One of the best hotels in America. I cannot overstate how excellent our stay at the Wentworth Mansion was. From the rooms, to the common spaces, to the excellent dining, everything about this hotel is incredible. The breakfast, tea time, and hors d’oeuvres were delicious. Every single employee was kind, generous, and professional- especially Bryan, Kevin, and John. Thank you Wentworth for an exceptional and memorable stay.
All the reviews are accurate. Charming, historic , romantic, wonderful customer service. Evening hors d’oeuvres very tasty as were the Morning pastries. Breakfast lovely. Short walk to King street. If you’re a Catholic-the first Catholic Church established in Georgia & the Carolinas is just down the street , St. Mary.
The care and enthusiasm of the staff is reflected in the service that’s provided. Elegant furnishings harkening back to the Victorian Age, thoughtful touches and additions that add resonance to the experience… wentworth mansion is indeed a one of a kind property and a top notch place to stay. Thank you!
A great place to stay and enjoy all things Charleston! While the remnants of hurricane Idalia threw a couple of minor “glitches” into our stay the innkeeper and staff were very responsive and up to the challenges. The spa offerings and staff are right up there with the best of the best. And viewing the moonrise from the cupola was an unsurpassed highlight! Thanks to all for a great vacation.
The rooms were a work of art from top to bottom. The old wood floors were gorgeous. Anything that you asked for the staff was extremely accommodating. It’s probably not a place you would stay every time you visited but it was an absolute pleasure the entire stay. Thank you!
We had a great time at the Wentworth Mansion. The building was gorgeous, the room was beautiful, and the staff was very friendly. Be sure to make it to the rooftop to take in a sunset. The evening wine and cheese hour was a nice touch, and the 24/7 whiskey station made the perfect stop for a nightcap on the way into our room. The location was in a nice walkable neighborhood and it was a short walk or Uber to many great restaurants and shops. We did eat at the restaurant on site and although the food was fantastic, the environment could benefit from some music as it was extremely quiet with a mainly older crowd. We stayed in the ballroom suite which was gorgeous and very comfortable but the only two downsides were we could never figure out the jets on the tub, I think the cord was broken, and the location of the room is literally on the other side of the wall from the lobby, so at times it felt a little less private from a sound perspective. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and were pleased with our selection to stay at the Wentworth. We’d recommend it to any couples looking for a small romantic hotel.
The Wentworth Mansion is an incredible place to stay in Charleston! Fantastic rooms and such a kind caring staff! The spa and restaurant are beautiful and the rooftop cupola has a spectacular 360 view of the city! The Mansion is a perfect walking distance from King Street and other Charleston historic homes and buildings! We loved our stay!
What a beautiful historical place to stay, the staff was amazing as well as the food! Great way to spend a stay in Charleston!! We can’t wait to stay there again.
People working at the Wentworth Mansion are special! All are super friendly and helpful, particularly the young lady at the front desk. They treat you like family. They really know Charleston.
Transport yourself into the past. Beautiful, relaxing and romantic. Nice staff, you don’t feel like you are at a hotel. You feel like you are a guest at a rich relatives mansion. Great attention to detail for your stay.
Absolutely wonderful!! Huge room with beautiful period piece furniture and a lovely fireplace. The spacious bathroom with a jetted a tub and separate shower is perfect. The staff and service is impeccable! The best breakfast is included too! Wine and snacks included nightly!
This is our favorite getaway. The rooms, cottages, services, food, everything is phenomenal. I love the peace and tranquility of low-country scenery.
Every time I went there, I always got up early to watch the sunrise. For those who love hiking or biking, they will love the natural trails here.
For golfers, it’s unnecessary to say more about the May River Golf Course on their property. It’s a beautiful Jack Nicklaus Signature Course.
I like riding my bicycle around Palmetto Bluff property, from one neighborhood to another, each with its own character. The center of the community is like a small downtown with a chapel, restaurants and a post office, evoking nostalgic feelings.
Spent Labor Day weekend at the Montage – Highly Recommend. The whole experience, while not cheap, btw, was amazing, the total chill vibe was just what we needed for a long weekend away. The staff from checkin, to bar, room service, the bike guys, restaurants, waiters, everyone was in a great mood and very accommodating. Will post more pics but the Riverhouse restaurant was one of the best meals in a long time with a local resident waiter who was very knowledgable and food that was great – and I am becoming more difficult to please !
We stayed in cottage 45. Absolutely gorgeous. Staff was courteous and helpful. This has been one of my favorite get aways and we look forward to returning.
We had the pleasure of producing our client’s wedding weekend at Montage Palmetto Bluff. Senior Events Manager Tara was very prompt with her responses throughout the planning process and provided a wealth of knowledge regarding the property and local recommendations. We hope to produce more beautiful celebrations at this gorgeous resort!
Montage Palmetto Bluff is an idyllic setting. Everywhere you look is gorgeous. Every staff person is welcoming, friendly and courteous. The cleanliness is top notch, the landscaping impeccable. Riding our bikes around the property is refreshing. So much to see and do and just relax and enjoy life. Definitely recommend.
Not the best location only because it’s so remote but the property is stunning. The restaurants are nice and the food was delicious! Bike rentals made it easy to get around and having a market across the street was nice to pick up snacks and drinks. The amenities/activities are endless: kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding, golfing, multiple pools, fire pits, bikes, e-bikes and plenty of trails to ride or walk. Too much to do in the short time we were there! The only downside is all of the bugs. However, there is bug spray in the rooms!!
Beautiful resort, comfortable well appointed rooms and excellent service. Turn down service every night freshened up room with new towels, fresh waters, chocolates. Morning housekeeping put room back to spotless condition each day. Valet staff are fantastic and quick, never had to wait for our car and they were always so friendly. All staff are professional and overall helpful. Grounds are very well kept. I enjoyed having bikes that we could check out and ride around the property and through the gorgeous residential neighborhood that surrounds the property. Also a big one for me – this resort dead silent at night, we were in the main lodge and I was worried it would be noisy, but I never heard a sound at night which was wonderful. Main pool the last day I was there was dirty, with straws and junk blown into it from people partying earlier in the day. But they work hard to keep cleaning things up. Smores at night, cookies in afternoon were fantastic.
Another potentially negative thing is that it is very remote – its a long drive onto the property from town, so your food/drink options are very limited and expensive. The catered food provided at the event I was at was excellent. Its a nice place, so you expect expensive drinks and food, but I like to try different places and options when visiting place, so we did drive quite a bit to explore different places – and due to the water/road system around the water, it just takes a long time to get anywhere. But we did have some fantastic food at different places in the area. Try Burnt Church distillery for pizza and drinks, they are reasonably close and was really good.
We have been coming to the Montage Palmetto Bluff for over 10 years. We have always had a 5-Star experience. This time it was not the case. On multiple occasions, we were treated by the Montage team members rudely. I can understand dealing with this type of attitude one or two times but we faced it multiple times.
We love the location and hotel property but we are going to think twice before we schedule another trip back.
