During my weekend stay, I had the opportunity to meet both Paul and Janet, who were wonderful B&B hosts. This is my fourth consecutive year visiting Galena. I always drive up around my birthday, and intentionally stay in a different location each time to get a feel of each neighborhood. My time at Cloran Mansion made me consider breaking that tradition.

This B&B is conveniently located just a block off Route 20 and two blocks from a Walmart, which I found more useful than I care to admit. Upon my arrival, I found a personalized birthday cake with formal plates and cutlery set on a tray on top of my bed. I was so touched!

The room I booked was the perfect size for me as a solo traveler. Everything was tidy and the housekeeper came daily. I had brought along my laptop to watch DVD’s, but turns out I didn’t need it because the room came with a DVD player. I had brought a heat tower to keep warm at night, but my room had an electric fireplace that could emit heat. I was concerned about storing leftovers, but there was a mini fridge stashed in the closet. The set up was perfect: just the right blend of old world meets modern technology.

Equally notable is the incredible breakfast meals Paul consistently prepares. As someone who is well-traveled, believe me when I say, his non-traditional meals could rival any restaurant. Nothing basic about this breakfast! There is popular breakfast place in Galena that I tend to frequent during my trips. Now it is just a distant memory. I’d book this place again for the breakfast alone.

Conversation with fellow guests at breakfast was very pleasant, and despite being busy in the kitchen, the hosts made time to talk with their guests. As it happened, I didn’t run into guests outside of breakfast. That made it feel like I had the place to myself when I’d slip into the library to check out the DVD collection or heat up my food in the microwave.

For me Galena is a wonderful place to unwind a relax. The grounds of the Cloran Mansion are tranquil and well-manicured. Perhaps the biggest luxury for me was just being able to read undisturbed on the couch in the screened in gazebo overlooking the pond at sunset.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at Cloran Mansion for my Birthday and we were delighted with our stay! From the beautiful room (Sara’s Room), the lovely touch of a small birthday cake, and the absolutely wonderful hospitality…the stay was in itself a gift. Paul is the epitome of the gracious and chill host, knowledgeable about the area! The breakfast area was charming, and the food was delicious, loved that they can do eggs cooked to order! There were halloween decorations and pumpkins around the mansion, really helping to make it really feel like fall! We are already looking forward to next time.

We stayed for one night to get away prior to our 2nd baby being born and booked the Babymoon package. We stayed in the cottage and it was the most peaceful space. Paul greeted us at the door to show us around and we later had couple massages right in the cottage which was amazing. Pauls thoughtful gifts from start to finish were such a nice touch and the breakfast was a great way to end the stay before heading out for the day to explore.

The Cloran Mansion Bed & Breakfast was the perfect choice for a two night stay in Galena, IL. My wife and I were greeted by Paul upon our arrival. He was most welcoming and explained all of the particulars needed for access, breakfasts, and parking. Paul showed us the snack room on the second floor as well as the fresh baked cookies in the foyer. Sara’s Suite on the main floor was spacious, comfortable, and quiet, especially considering it was right off the main entry. The bathroom was among the largest of any B&B I have previously stayed. It included a large shower, jetted tub, & chevalier mirror. At breakfast, we were joined by other guests at the main dining table. The food was fantastic (and plentiful). The cinnamon roll pancakes were sooo-good! The Cloran Mansion is located about ten minutes from historic downtown Galena. It was an easy drive (considering major road construction on U.S. 20 in Galena) to town. We also found the B&B very convenient to other shopping areas and the Galena Golf Club. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cloran Mansion.

We stayed at the Cloran Mansion for a weekend away and our first trip to Galena. We stayed in the Tower Room and it was perfect for us. The food was amazing too. The breakfast was picture worthy. Paul, the owner, was very friendly and so accommodating. We loved being able to interact with the other guests. I would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone visiting the area.

I got married in Galena back in June, and I wanted to find a place where the bridal party could all stay. The Cloran Mansion was the perfect place! We reserved the entire property for the weekend of our wedding. Paul was amazing to work with. Breakfast was delicious every morning. The property is very clean. My bridesmaids and I had our hair and make up done in the mansion, and Paul was so accommodating with that all going on while serving breakfast as well. The room setup was perfect to fit our whole party, especially since so many of them were traveling from out of state. My sister was even able to bring her dogs and stay in the cottage (which is difficult to find in many B&B’s!) Overall, the mansion will always hold a special place in our hearts, and it was the perfect place for us to all stay.

Beautiful mansion. Easy directions and Paul was there to greet us and welcome in (we were able to text him about our arrival time and throughout the trip he was responsive over the phone). Paul is very kind and accommodating – he puts in a lot of effort to get to know the guests and what their preferences are. The room itself was clean and stocked with everything we could need. The breakfast was the star of the show with each day bringing its own surprise and unique flair. We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed our vacation in Galena thanks to Paul and his hospitality.

We stayed at the Cloran Mansion for our honeymoon and had the most wonderful time. It was our first time starting at a bed and breakfast, and honestly I don’t think we could ever go back to hotels after this. The food was amazing, one of the highlights of our trip! The breakfast alone is a reason to stay here. Paul was always super nice and personable. We also did the couples massage and private dinner, which was a great experience. Highly recommend the Tower Room, which is where we stayed. The staircase is very narrow, but worth it for the romantic jacuzzi setting. Staying here, you’re also really close to anywhere you would need to go, making it very convenient. We hadn’t even made it out the door before we started talking about coming back

Great hotel very home from home
A welcoming log fire in the living room, a glass of wine , cheese and biscuits supplied by the lovely May (or Mai ) she was so helpful and friendly as were any staff we came into contact with places of interest all within walking distance.

The property is a renovated turn-of-the-century elegant apartment building. It has been artfully converted into a multi-unit B&B with many comforts added. The staff is friendly and accommodating, it is located right in the middle of Springfield’s historic district, and the breakfast is home-cooked. What’s not to love?

Loved our stay here. Beautiful historic room, great breakfast and very friendly staff. Only minor negative was being near a trainline you can hear the train passing during the night. Overall would highly recommend.

Such a beautiful, historic place to spend a weekend. My husband and I spent our anniversary here and we were pleasantly surprised. We’ve always been chain hotel people, so this was a bit of a leap for us. I’m glad we took the leap. Beautiful interior in the main building. Lovely woodwork. Our room was actually a suite, separate from the main building, with a sleeping area, sitting room, private bathroom and jacuzzi. We also had two covered porches, both with beautiful views of the grounds. Delicious hot breakfast available, wine and cheese hour…If we stayed in Springfield again, I would stay here again.

This place was so nice to stay at. The lady at the front desk was very welcoming and showed us around the property.
The pictures for this place do not do it justice. Each room is much bigger and cozier that they look. No complaints! 14/10 ?????

Such a cool old building that has been restored! You get fresh baked cookies at check in. Rooms are decent size…the suites are huge!Complimentary wine and cheese each night from 5-7. Very close to downtown and free off street parking.

Have stayed twice and will stay again. Very nice stay with nice extras such as the cookies every evening. Friendly greeting at the door and helpful staff. Would recommend staying in the Inn itself instead of the Bell House.

We stayed here from April 12-14, 2023 and Skylar, the front desk assistant was so kind and helpful, we wanted to do a review! Everyone there was very nice and professional, and we highly recommend the Inn At 835 Boutique Hotel! The building is gorgeous and is a lot of work to maintain as it is so old. We enjoyed our stay and appreciate the rich history of the place. Thanks again, Skylar, and everyone else on the staff who worked hard to make our stay so enjoyable!

Staying at Inn at 835 was a great experience. The building is authentic and interesting. The rooms were beautiful, clean, and comfortable. I really enjoyed the friendly staff, warm cookies on the door at night, and the delicious hot breakfast in the morning. The location is awesome for visiting Springfield as the downtown is walkable from the hotel. Definitely would recommend staying here.

Update: Came back to this location with the rest of the family. As mentioned 2 months ago by someone else that they massively downgrades the quality of the breakfast. When I went here last year they had different breakfast options everyday. Instead they had the same breakfast selections everyday. Kinda disappointing.

Great Hotel, great history, and great location. Hospitality and staff were amazing! I could walk to about everything Lincoln related.

If you believe in the Paranormal this is the definitely a place to stay!! Had some really cool experiences like lights flickering, hearing a woman’s voice say hello to me when nobody is around and seeing/feeling things when I was the only one around. Don’t worry the spirits are not going to hurt you!

We had stayed here in the past and loved it, so we decided to stay again for a recent trip. The hotel was the same except that they have massively downgraded breakfast. When we stayed last, we had a freshly made quiche, sausage, potatoes, and yogurt parfait. The breakfast experience was honestly the main reason we booked the hotel this time around and something we had looked forward too. This time, there was no hot food, just a table with cereal, yogurt, and a small tray of muffins. It was a huge disappointment. Not sure if we would stay here again.

I was throughly impressed! This place puts other establishments to shame. Wonderful staff (Megan), great accommodations and clean! Yes, clean. Felt like home.
My room had a shared porch to relax on that had plenty of shade. Bed was comfortable and room was quiet, even with a busy train track located 2 blocks east.
Wasn’t able to stay for breakfast, so I can’t comment on it.
They did have a wine and cheese reception at 5pm, plus cookies later that evening.
Plenty of safe off street parking in their own lot.
Several eating establishments within easy walking distance.

Such a wonderful, charming place. The staff are amazing and breakfast is delicious (& made fresh just for you)! We spent the weekend in one of their spacious suites bc our daughter was getting married and having her reception in their beautiful ballroom (that was a 5-star experience as well). The bridal party used our suite to get ready that morning and it was perfect! The photographer (amazing Jill Gum), was able to find so many neat places to set up some great shots.
We were treated so well the entire weekend (& even had fresh cookies brought to the room each day). We highly recommend. We had an absolutely enchanting weekend!!!
