Recent trip to Glen Laurel was amazing! Dinner in the Manor House was exceptional! The menu for the evening was amazing as was the presentation. Picture worthy! Breakfast the next day featured fresh homemade scones made by none other than Melissa! Every employee that we encountered was welcoming and made sure we were having a memorable and positive experience.

I have been to the Glenlaurel many times and am never disappointed. I have never had a bad meal, whether it is breakfast, a packed lunch, or the AMAZING multi course dinners.
The suites, crofts, and cottages are always clean, well appointed and very comfortable. The grounds are magical. The staff are always very nice and do a wonderful job.

We booked Glen Laurel because we wanted to stay somewhere special and unique. There is not much “Scottish” here but the name. We had some prepackaged shortbread in our Croft and Scottish music playing when we arrived. Even the coffee table book in our Croft was on California! The Croft was clean but outdated and wear was evident. There is a free Scottish golf course available for guests (however, you have to purchase special balls from them to play plus a special tee, so not really free, eh). The gift shop is the size of a large closet and did not seem to offer many Scottish influenced items.
The scenery is beautiful and it is mostly quiet. They do have 2 private hiking trails, totaling about 2 miles of their 140 acres.
Breakfast was mediocre – the scones were by far the best part of the meal. We did choose to skip the chef’s 6 course meal due to the high cost and the mixed reviews of previous diners.

All in all a very high cost for an underwhelming stay.

An Unforgettable Five-Star Escape – Pure Magic at GlenLaurel

THE most AMAZING trip I have ever taken! GlenLaurel is nothing short of a hidden gem—an enchanting Scottish sanctuary tucked deep within the heart of Ohio’s Hocking Hills. From the moment we arrived, it felt as though we had been transported across the ocean to a real-life Highland retreat.

This remote oasis provided the perfect opportunity to disconnect from the world and reconnect with peace, beauty, and each other. Our cottage was the ideal balance of accessibility and seclusion—easily reachable yet completely private. Surrounded by serene forest, flowing creeks, and winding trails, it offered an intimate escape we’ll never forget.

Each morning began with a gourmet three-course breakfast crafted by a professional chef, setting a high bar that the rest of the day somehow managed to meet. The evenings were pure indulgence—elegant six- and seven-course fine dining experiences that rival any top-tier restaurant. Every dish was a work of art, and the flavors were beyond exceptional.

What truly sets GlenLaurel apart, however, is the staff. Their warmth, attentiveness, and sincere hospitality brought the spirit of Scotland to life. They anticipated every need, remembered every detail, and made us feel like honored guests in a storybook setting.

The on-site 9-hole links-style golf course added a fun and scenic touch to our stay, and the bonfire pit on the bluff—overlooking miles of rolling hills and forest—quickly became our favorite spot to unwind and watch the sunset.

Whether you’re seeking romance, rest, or a remarkable culinary journey, GlenLaurel delivers an unparalleled experience. This was, without a doubt, the most magical and memorable getaway we’ve ever had—and we’re already dreaming of our return. We have determined that this will be our annual anniversary destination.

Our stay was fabulous! Absolutely gorgeous property with breathtaking trails right on site, also convenient to Hocking Hills State Park. Our Croft was so nice, had a beautiful screen porch and nice hot tub on the deck. In addition to everything being very clean and in good working order they really pay attention to nice little details. The meals were wonderful, both the breakfasts each morning and the special 6 course dinner, and we loved the cozy pub downstairs. This place has such a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. I really want to visit again!

This inn was so terrible that my husband and I have mentioned writing the bad review since we stayed, and that was years ago. But, boy was it terrible. Seeing some reviews today, I see the same issues still exist, so I wanted to share our experience.

We’ve traveled to the Hocking Hills area not infrequently, and we love Inn at Cedar Falls. After our first stay there, we tried this one. Wow, bad idea.

First, our room was above the dining room. Very loud, basic, and hilariously, it had a bidet that was set to some ungodly temperature and literally burned my butt. Now, that was funny, but true to their pretentious form, they described it as “the only known bidet” in the county. We still laugh about that.

The bigger, real issue, was the dinner and the female owner(manager?) We booked the multi-course dinner. First, we were in the bar area not dressed up yet about 45 mins before dinner. We had every intention of changing to match the dress code for dinner (and did), but the manager approached us and advised us to change. (Literally, I was in jeans and a blazer after hiking; I had added the blazer before getting a drink because it’s my general attire.)

So, we’re all dolled up for dinner, and we find that the good seating (on a different floor) is mostly locals and a few chosen folks. We were in a weird basement room with the bulk of the other diners. Terrible lighting, trash environment. But, fine, we’re rolling with it.

What prompted me to write today was that I saw a review within the past few months which echoed my experience, and the inn’s response was spicy.

The food was terrible. Every sauce was sickeningly sweet. Every protein (fish, meat) was previously frozen, obviously. The food was disgusting, and my husband and I commiserated and laughed with two other couples after.

The less funny part was the chef with terrible jokes and off-color comments (I’m not sensitive, but really sexist stuff) at every course throughout the dinner. What is the opposite of romantic? This. We can only hope that his presence in the dining area kept the food from getting worse.

We didn’t complain, we just laughed and vowed to never go again. We call it “the snobbish place,” like “Scottish,” but, you know, terrible.

Inn at Cedar Falls. Great food, great people, great cabins. Just don’t waste your money here. We live near Chicago, so we don’t have an axe to grind. But, wow, absolutely terrible.

Stopped in on our honeymoon for one of their dinners. It was amazing. Started off beforehand with a nice wine selection. Every staff member was kind and knowledgeable. They started pff with a poetry reading. After dinner the chef came to answer questions about the meal.

Our third time to Glenlaurel and always a great experience. The rooms are exceptionally clean, and the staff goes the extra mile to make sure you have everything you need. Recommend the special dinner they offer which is world class.

Recently stayed for 3 nights. Beautiful grounds. Our cabin was wonderful with a comfortable bed. The out door hot tub was great after a day of walking. The screened in porch was also great for sitting outdoors to read. Biggest disappointment was they turn off the fireplaces on May 1! That was one of the reasons we selected this Inn. The night were chilly and we were looking forward to a cosy fire.
They serve breakfast which is included with your stay when possible. The first morning of our stay we had a nice table near a window as it was raining. The next morning we were seated outside. It was 60 degrees and really chilly and damp. The space is very pretty but I wish they’d have given the option to sit indoors. The food was very good.

My wife and I truly enjoyed our anniversary getaway. The Drummond croft was clean and welcoming. We enjoyed the gas fireplace between the bedroom and sitting room and the hot tub. The people were nice, breakfast was great, and the on-premises trails were as good as anything at the parks. Scenic and well-maintained. Thank you so much for a great night away, Glen Laurel! We truly enjoyed ourselves.

My husband and I decided to eat here for our wedding anniversary, and it was a bad culinary experience.

We arrived early for the Pub Social, and it was fine. There was a small serving plate of cheeses and some fruit in the room with the bar. Be aware, this room gets crowded due to a lack of places to sit during the Social. Just as an fyi – I was under the impression we got a free drink during the social but we didn’t, which is fine because I probably misread the website. I did get a glass of wine though, and it tasted like a very cheap bottle. They only had between 2-4 single glass wine offerings on the drink menu.

The first course of the dinner menu was a scallop. The presentation was beautiful, but I couldn’t eat more than one bite because it had sand in it. The second course was a soup that I didn’t like, but that was probably a personal preference. Third course was a salad, and that was the best course. The forth course was a wine sorbet and it reminded me of one of those sugar-free fruit gummies with a grainy texture. Fifth course, the entrée, was slow-cooked beef served with a merlot reduction, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. The beef on the tippy top had a char, fell apart, and was delicious. But, the rest of it did not fall apart and when I turned it over the back side was just a conglomerate of fat. The asparagus wasn’t done, and the merlot reduction didn’t reduce enough. The final course was a gluten and dairy free butterscotch dessert. It tasted like someone put a coarsely ground nut butter on top of a weird granola.

At the end, the chef with a fake sounding accent came out and told a couple of stories that made no sense. Most people in the room were looking at each other like…what?, or trying to avoid eye contact with the chef. Finally, the music sounded like the same 3 songs over and over for the whole 2 hours of dinner. Not a great experience.

Could not have picked a better place for my wife’s 60th b-day surprise celebration with friends. We were looking for something relaxing, quaint and different. Glenlaurel exceeded that by a mile! Great intimate Scottish Inn with cottages and friendly staff. Glad the weather improved to hike the on-site trail and gorge, which are like a mini Hocking Hills without the crowds. Definitely enjoyed social hour at the bar before our expertly prepared 6-course dinner. First place in a long time that I can honestly say would not change anything. Thanks for a great couple of days! We will definitely be back! Thanks, Matt

Glenlaurel far exceeded my expectations. From the moment we pulled up, I felt transported to Scotland. The commitment to detail is exquisite. Every staff member is beyond pleasant and helpful. It’s a magical place with beautiful grounds and the manor house for breakfast and lunch is spectacular!! The food is amazing. Both breakfast and dinner presentations were perfect and some of the most delicious dishes I have ever experienced. The chef and his team cater to your needs perfectly.

Highly recommend this establishment.
We stayed in the Muir cottage and I didn’t want to leave. The cottage was so inviting, warm, cozy and larger than expected. The cleanliness was greatly appreciated. I can’t wait to go back!

Lovely, magical, romantic getaway. Have gone 4 times during my husband’s birthday and will keep on going. My husband wants a cabin but this place is a better option with a Chef, fireplace, hot tub/jacuzzi and beautiful grounds with a waterfalls and a gorge. You can also have someone come and give a massage.

Jean Michel is an amazing chef with an excellent sense of humor.

The grounds are awesome with a 1 mile hike to the Gorge and falls. The icicles in the winter are beautiful!

Can’t wait to come back next year!!!

I came to Glenlaurel for a much needed break. I came alone, as my sweet husband encouraged me to take some time away to just focus on myself. Once I arrived I began feeling very sick and ended up in the ER.
Upon my return to the Inn, the staff were so amazing, supportive, and they genuinely cared about me and my well being. I was scared to be so sick and hours away from my family, but they really helped support and accommodate me, for which I am very grateful for! Not only is the Inn so beautiful and charming, the staff are beyond amazing and go above and beyond for their guests ?

If I could give 10 stars I would. The environment is truly an intimate, elegant one. All of the cottages are stunning, and the staff is phenomenal. Admittedly I’m ashamed to say I worried the food would be “hotel food” and dressed up as gourmet. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I had some of the best meals I have ever had. I don’t even like seafood, and I ate every bit of seafood that was put in front of me! You have to go!

The food, cleanliness and atmosphere were all lovely. We, sadly, didn’t have time to explore the grounds, but what little we saw of them were well maintained and we hope to come back again sometime to explore the trails and such. Definitely try the 6/7-course dinner if you stay. The food is so good we’re debating driving down just to try it again.
